9 suspects remanded in connection to Minuwangoda unrest

COLOMBO (News 1st) - 9 suspects arrested in connection to the unrest in Minuwangoda and surrounding areas last night, have been remanded until the 29th of this month after they were produced before the Minuwangoda Magistrate court. Police Media Spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara said, that they were produced before court under 2 special legal provisions. The 2 legal provisions are emergency regulations and the international covenant on Civil and Political Rights. He added that thereby, the suspects can only be granted bail by the high court. Police Media Spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara said that 9 suspects were arrested last night and 4 suspects were arrested this morning for the unrest in the Minuwangoda area. The suspects who were arrested last night have been produced before court and remanded in this manner and the 4 suspects arrested today are due to produced in court.
