COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Department of Railway stated that K9 units capable of detecting explosives will be deployed to search the baggage of train passengers. General Manager of Railways, Dilantha Fernando noted the measure was taken in order to check luggage with ease and cause less inconvenience to both passengers and authorities. He added that assistance was requested from the Air Force and Special Task Force. He went on to note that the Civil Defence Force has also been deployed to beef up security at railway stations across the country. All the trains will be subjected to random inspections.
