COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Supreme Court today (May 08) ordered to issue a notice on former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara to appear in court on May 21st. The order was made after a Fundamental Rights petition was filed at the Supreme Court citing that they were aware of the April 21st attack and failed to take action. The FR petition was filed by Saman Nandana Sirimanne from Wellawatte; a father who lost both his children in the suicide bomb attack on the Kochchikade church. The petition demands legal action to be taken against former Defence Secretary, Hemasiri Fernando and the IGP, Pujith Jayasundara for being aware of the attacks and failing to avoid the catastrophe. The Attorney General's Department today (May 08) informed the court that they will not represent either the former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando or IGP Pujith Jayasundara.
