COLOMBO (News 1st) -  Footage of a meeting where Minister Navin Dissanayake shares his thoughts with the prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on the removal of the IGP had been circulating social media recently. Minister Navin Dissanayake: "There is something else that I want to discuss, it is about the IGP. I have on many occasions criticised him. I saw a video on Youtube that showed a Police sergeant being pushed against the wall by his neck inside the Police station. Since then I have been very critical of him. He has been removed from his post. There is supposed to be a legal basis for this. We have to let it go. There is no need for any of us to speak for him." Minister added that legal debate for the removal of the IGP is unnecessary and people would not stand a legal debate during a national crisis. He went on to say that the citizens of the country need a true change and if the government fails to do so, the UNP will have to perish. Ranil Wickremesinghe responded to the minister and noted that he would not in speak in favour of the IGP and he only wanted to do "whatever" so it would not backfire on us (government).
