Incident in Negombo: Origin and current status

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The police media spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekera noted that the unrest in Negombo was an isolated incident. An argument between two individuals and later involvement of a group of people under the influence of alcohol ultimately resulted in an altercation between two mobs. He said that police responded immediately to defuse the situation and as an additional security measure, a police curfew was imposed for the Negombo Police Division from last night to 07 am this morning. SP Gunasekera went on to note that a number of vandalising acts were reported from Negombo, Katana and Kochchikade. He added that there were three complaints on assaults and fisticuffs. No weapons were used. Two men have been already arrested and several others connected to these incidents have been identified by police.
