Dengue threat rises again

Colombo (News 1st) – The health sector warns that dengue could re-emerge with the onset of the monsoon season.

The National Dengue Eradication Unit’s Community Specialist Dr Prashila Samaraweera advised the public to remain vigilant.

Meanwhile, the Met Department stated that showers or thundershowers are likely over the Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, Western and North-Western provinces. Heavy rains between 100 to 150 mm are predicted.

Issuing a weather advisory last evening the Met Department warned, that the cyclone ‘FANI’ was located about 880 km North-East of Jaffna. The effects of the cyclone will gradually reduce as it is moving away from the country. The storm is heading across to Odisha coast in India.
