Protest at Ampara General Hospital against new director

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Employees at the Ampara General Hospital and the Catholic and Maha Sangha religious leaders were engaged in a silent protest during the lunch break at the hospital yesterday(April 30). The demonstration was against the replacement of the hospital director. Venerable Kiridiwela Somaratne Thero, Chief Sanghanayake of the Eastern Province noted that the earlier appointment was replaced by a new director and all of them were surprised. Dr Ruwan Bandara Deputy Secretary to the GMOA shared his opinion on the commotion. He noted that the residents and the employees of the Government Medical Officers Association believe the new appointment is a threat to their security based on the existing security crisis in the country. The crowd dispersed following the assurance by the Health ministry to resolve the issue.
