Colombo (News 1st) – According to Maheel Bandara Dehideniya and Venerable Rathkarawwe Jinarathana Thero, the conveners of the Inter University Students’ Federation, noted that the circular issued by the Ministry of Education in relation to the safety of students do not contain proper security protocols that safeguard students.

Maheel Bandara noted that 2019 25th circular was supposed to provide necessary security instructions to the schools, especially at a time where the national security is at risk, but unfortunately, the government had clearly ignored the very purpose of this circular.

Maheel Bandara added that the government has merely introduced the circular to “get rid themselves of the burden” as it only dictates that the school staff and the local community should form a committee and safeguard the schools and students. According to him, it was humorous as none of them would have the experience to stand against a terrorist attack.

Ven. Rathkarawwe Jinarathana Thero noted that the School Children Protection Committee was formed in 2011 with the intention of fighting child abuse and would definitely not be prepared to fight back a terrorist attack.
