COLOMBO (News 1st) – A group of UNP members convened at the Temple Trees yesterday(April 29), under the auspices of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Speaking to the media following the meeting, UNP MP, Hesha Vithanage noted that a decision was made to forward a letter to the President bearing the signatures of UNP MPs and ministers, requesting him to appoint Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka as the Minister of Defence, which is currently vacant.

He added that Minister Arjuna Ranatunga is ready to resign from his ministerial portfolio in order to facilitate this appointment if required.
