Universites and Schools to be vigilant

COLOMBO (News 1st) - University Grants Commission stated that they have informed all the university administrations across the island to provide adequate security to hostels effective immediately. The Chairperson to the University Grants Commission, Mohan de Silva added that the commission had advised the administration to seek assistance from the army camps and police stations in the vicinity if required. The Commission noted that they have allowed the students to stay within the university hostels and decided to facilitate them as usual. Meanwhile, the Education Ministry had instructed the principals all over the island to assure the safety of the school premises and the surrounding areas before the schools commence their academic activities for the second term. A senior official to the ministry recommended consulting with police stations in the area to get the school premises inspected. Principals were also advised to get the assistance of parents and other adults to carry out suitable precautionary procedures.
