Colombo (News 1st): Journalists questioned MP Kumara Welgama in Agalawatte regarding the next presidential candidate.
Responding to this he noted that in terms of seniority, it is he who comes in second after Mahinda Rajapaksa. He said if Rajapaksa fails to contest then comes the brother, if not the younger brother, or the elder one, or the wife, or the other elder brother, but, the son cannot contest as of yet. Welgama noted that it is similar to the British royal family.
"The presidential election is not limited to a zone and during a presidential election, the whole country becomes one election zone and we (UPFA) have a majority, however, we could not win with this majority as the majority itself is, insufficient, we need a good candidate," said Kumara Welgama.
The UPFA parliamentarian noted that this is why the UPFA needs the support of the JVP.
When questioned regarding abolishing of the executive presidency, he noted that if he becomes the president of the country, he will first abolish the executive presidency within six months.
