PCoI investigates alleged corruption at the Blood Transfusion Centre in Narahenpita

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Presidential Commission appointed to investigate fraud and corruption at state institutions over the past 4 years states that preliminary investigations have been launched into allegations of corruption over the past 4 years at the Blood Transfusion Centre in Narahenpita. A commission spokesperson noted that investigations are underway into allegations claiming the centre had purchased 283 refrigerators and freezers from Germany and Netherlands at higher prices. It was reported that complaints have been lodged against the former acting director, Rukshan Bellana in this regard. The spokesperson added that statements had been recorded regarding these allegations from the Deputy Director of the Blood Transfusion Centre in Narahenpita on several occasions. Sudheera Chathuranga, a Biomedical engineer attached to the Blood Transfusion Centre in Narahenpita is to be summoned to the commission on the 23rd of this month, to provide a statement.
