PCoI to hear evidence on drug imports for Cancer hospital, import of heifers and "Suraksha" insurance on 22nd and 23rd

COLOMBO (News 1st) - An additional team of Police officers has been appointed to carry out preliminary investigations into the complaints received by the Presidential Commission appointed to investigate fraud and corruption at state institutions over the past 4 years. A spokesperson attached to the commission noted that six additional police officers were appointed for this task following a request to the Inspector General of Police. Accordingly, the police unit of the commission comprises of 18 officials to carry out preliminary investigations related to complaints. It was reported that hearings will recommence on April 22nd. A spokesperson for the commission noted that on 22nd and 23rd they are to hear evidence regarding alleged irregularities and frauds regarding the import of drugs for the Cancer hospital, import of heifers and "Suraksha" insurance programme. The spokesperson also said that several ministers from the ruling party and secretaries to ministries are to be summoned for the hearings.
