11 murders during 3 days of festivities

Colombo (News 1st): 11 murders were reported during the 3 days of festivities in the country. Trincomalee A homicide where a youth's throat was slit was reported from Trincomalee. The incident had occurred in close proximity to the Trincomalee Naval Camp. The victim was travelling on a motorbike with his friend. The pillion rider had slit the throat of the rider when he pulled up on the side of a by road. CCTV cameras nearby captured footage of the victim who sustained serious injuries making his way to a three-wheeler stand close to the Trincomalee Naval base. According to News 1st correspondent, the victim had fallen down while he was making his way to the Naval Base. He had succumbed to his injuries when he was admitted to the Trincomalee General Hospital. The deceased was a 21-year-old youth named Thangadurai Dhanushan. The murder is suspected to have been committed over a love affair. Following the incident, the suspected murderer had surrendered to the police along with his father. Kolonnawa A youth was murdered after being attacked by a pole in Ulhuduwaawa, Kolonnawa. According to the police, the victim was attacked while he was preparing to attend a musical show. He was attacked by two men who arrived on a motorbike. The deceased was a 17-year-old resident of the area named Bawantha Prasad Abeyakoon. A 22-year-old friend of the victim who was also at the scene of the crime and was attacked is being treated for his injuries at the Kolonnawa District hospital. The perpetrators of the crime have not yet been identified. Police are conducting further investigations into the incident. Matale A married couple was murdered inside their home in Dewahuuwa, Matale. They were attacked with sharp weapons. Police suspect the murder was a result of a prolonged personal dispute. The victims are 53-year-old Anula Suraweera and 51-year-old Gamini Suraweera. Anuradhapura One person was killed and two others were injured during a brawl at a betting centre in Wedeniya, Ipalogama Anuradhapura. The deceased R.D. Premasiri was a 62-year-old father of one residing in Kurunegala. He was visiting his son's residence in Ipalogama. The injured people are receiving treatment at the Anuradhapura teaching hospital. The son of the deceased is also among the injured. Hingurakgoda A woman was murdered in Jayanthipura, Naagahapokuna, Hingurakagoda yesterday (April 15). According to police, the woman was killed by her husband over a personal dispute. The deceased named Dinusha Chandrasekara was a 25-year-old mother of one. Speaking regarding the matter Police media spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara said,
"We have observed that a majority of the murders were a result of unruly behaviour under the influence of alcohol. Police stations have been notified to deploy mobile patrol units, to keep the peace, and to arrest and produce in courts those who are behaving unruly under the influence of alcohol."
