Kayankerni Marine, Batticaloa declared a maritime sanctuary

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Kayankerni Marine in Batticaloa has been declared a maritime sanctuary. The declaration has been made under the Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance. The gazette notification pertaining to it has been issued by MP John Amaratunga, Minister of Wildlife and Tourism Development The Kayankerni Marine Sanctuary is 953 hectares in size and has been declared for the conservation of marine ecosystems.
