Eight arrested for cutting mangrove shrubs

Colombo (News 1st): Sri Lanka Navy together with officials of Wildlife Conservation Department, Mannar attached to the Madu office, arrested 8 people who were cutting mangrove shrubs. They were arrested during a raid carried out in Udeiadi lagoon area, Wankalai yesterday (April 9). Few mangrove branches cut by them, two knives and 2 axes used for cutting the mangrove were taken into naval custody. The suspects are residents of Mannar area in the ages of 43, 38, 31, 29,27 & 19. Officers of the Wildlife Conservation Department will conduct further investigations.
