No power cuts for New Year

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The media spokesperson to the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy, Sulakshana Jayawardena stated that recommendations to resolve the existing power crisis are currently being reviewed. He noted that they were granted approval in January to call bids in order to purchase 300 megawatts through alternate power sources. He added that with the bidding that proposal for 180 MW was presented but in order to take further steps regarding that, the reviews of the proposed oil project are needed to be concluded. He went on to say that following the reviews if it is evident to be beneficial to Sri Lanka they would commence the next phase. The spokesperson also added steps are taken to ensure continuous power supply during the week of the Sinhala and Tamil New year.
