COLOMBO (News 1st): Are we to witness a Presidential Election or a General Election? According to UPFA MP Vasudeva Nanayakkara, a decision on the matter will be taken after determining when the President’s term will come to an end according to the 19th Amendment.
The MP says that if the Supreme Court declares that the Presidency will end in May and not January, a general election will be called in February.
“The President has the right to call for a general election 6 months prior to the scheduled date. If that happens, we will first witness a general election. But the provincial council polls will be further postponed by this government.” he added.
