COLOMBO (News 1st) - Sixteen trade unions from the nursing services, supplementary services and paramedical services have commenced a day-long trade union action. Saman Rantapriya, the Joint Convener of the Joint Federation of Health Professionals noted that the strike is based on ten demands. He added the strike will affect hospitals under the central government and all the hospitals across the country. However, he noted that the strike will not affect the Maharagama Apeksha Cancer Hospital, Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital, Castle Street Hospital for Women, and De Soysa Maternity Hospital. He mentioned that discussions regarding the fact that it takes ten years for the nurses to get their first promotion were held on numerous occasions to no avail.
