School Rugby upsets: St Peters beat Royal; Joes overcome Isipathana and Thomians loose to Wesley

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Last evening (March 30) was an exciting weekend filled with one of the most anticipated school rugby encounters. St.Peter's College defeated Royal College 12 points to 8 and ended Royal's unbeaten run in the inter-school rugby league and regained the B.C. Anghie trophy after a lapse of 6 years in a thrilling encounter at Bambalapitiya last evening. At the clash of the unbeaten teams, last evening at, Havelock Park St.Joseph's College emerged victorious 18 points to 17 thus ending Isipathana's unbeaten run. The Josephians are on a roller coaster ride this season as they have won 5 back to back games in the top division which is a historic feat in their 64-year rugby history. Wesley College survived a spirited comeback by S.Thomas' College at Mt.lavinia last evening and regained the Sir Oliver Goonatilleke Memorial Shield winning by a narrow 2 points. Final scores were S.Thomas' 24 Wesley 26.
