Colombo (News 1st): The Daily Mirror newspaper reported that Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade Malik Samarawickrama together with Minister of Petroleum Resources Development Kabir Hashim will leave for Oman to obtain foreign investment. The usual procedure when obtaining foreign investment is to invite the investor to the country. The people are suspicious as to why the two ministers have decided to leave for Oman and if there's a hidden motive behind this sudden decision. A number of media outlets, including the international media and Transparency International Sri Lanka have questioned the controversial project as soon as it was announced. It is questionable as to whether the two ministers are travelling to Oman to cover up these allegations. This oil refinery project in the Hambantota Export Processing Zone which is connected to a controversial Indian businessman and politician was announced as the biggest foreign direct investment the country has attracted. However, the government which failed to provide answers to many questions has now decided to send the two ministers to Oman to continue discussions on the Hambantota Oil Refinery Project. This creates suspicion of a hidden deal or a motive.
