Colombo (News 1st): The Ministry of Power and Energy has decided to buy electricity from two private powerplants. This decision was taken as a solution to the current power crisis.
The media spokesperson of the ministry Sulakshana Jayewardena stated that the cabinet approval was given before to buy electricity from the Matara and Sapugaskanda power plants. The power plants are expected to input
75 megawatts to the national grid.
He further noted that
institutions were instructed to use power from their own generators until the power crisis is solved.
