Colombo (News 1st): The 36th Annual Convention of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service Association was held today (March 28) under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Minister of Public Administration Ranjith Madduma Bandara and administrative officers attended the convention that was held at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre in Colombo. Speaking at the event President Maithripala Sirisena said the Presidential Election will be held at the end of the year according to the provisions of the constitution. He added that no matter who is elected as President in 2020, he or she would have to create a massive revolution in the country to bring about commitment from the politicians, sense of responsibility from the public servants and do away with fraud and corruption which would easily bridge the budget deficit. The President said the main reason for the downfall of Sri Lanka is the operation of a series of governments and if these issues are not addressed now, the situation in the coming years will become worse. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe speaking on the present energy crisis said at Temple Trees a generator is used for electricity without adding a burden to the national grid and called on government institutions to follow the same. Wickremesinghe said if this process is maintained for another 07 days only, power cuts can be controlled. He said there are no power-cuts in Colombo because major businesses have agreed to employ their generators for electricity requirements rather than depending on the national supply. He added that if the government institutions adopt these measures they will be able to provide the general public with some relief.
