Powerless power plant which consumes billions

MTD's non-operational power plant paid Rs 1,178 million in 2017 and 2018

Colombo (News 1st): With the ongoing electricity crisis one thing you won't expect is a shutdown power plant which consumes millions of rupees every year. It has come to News 1st's attention that there is a power plant in Chunnakam (North) where the unthinkable happens. The financial performance of October 2018 and 2017 of the Ceylon Electricity Board shows that there is a power plant that has been built in the Northern province, that has been shut down on a court order in 2015. However, in 2018 the CEB has paid Rs. 492 million whilst in 2017 it paid Rs. 686 million for this non-operational power plant. A value over Rs. 1.1 billion has been paid to this particular power plant which has been closed since 2015. This northern power plant belongs to a company named MTD Walkers,  a company that News 1st has been exposing from time to time. One such exposure is the People's Bank issue.  These are the incidents that prove the financial mismanagement of our country by politicians. The actions of a few politicians reflect on all politicians. These are the incidents that make all parliamentarians seem dishonest and corrupt. It should be reiterated that actions of a few people be it financial mismanagement, be it corruption of the highest order where peoples' confidence is undermined, this reflects on the politicians and the people who control power in our country.
