COLOMBO (News 1st) – Several development projects implemented in the Kurunegala district with the funds of the Office for National Unity and Reconciliation were vested with the public today(March 28) under the auspices of former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga.

These projects which are focused on sustainable reconciliation were allocated Rs. 22mn.

The internal road system of the Thalapayaru village in the Divisional Secretariat of Kuchchaveli was restored and three wells were vested with the public today(March 28).

The opening of Milk collection and chilling centre in Gomarankadawala, restoration of Nawakkulama and Mailawewa lake bunds were done under the same project.

When a journalist at the scene inquired about the power crisis prevailing in the country which existed during her tenure she noted that she would answer it shortly.

She mentioned that it was she who laid the foundation stone for the Norochcholai Power plant but the Rajapaksa government discarded the agreement and signed another agreement with a price “twice” as what she had agreed to. She added that she could reveal where the excess money ended up but it was not the right moment.

She noted that she handed it over to a professional company in China but the Rajapaksa government handed it over to a cheap Chinese company resulting in Norochcholai power plant breaking down 38 times and catching fire 7 times during the past 7-8 years.

She finally added that if the construction had continued the way she had planned, the country would not face a catastrophe like this and claimed that the former minister of power and energy should be held responsible.
