COLOMBO (News 1st) - The 36th Annual Summit of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service Association is currently being held at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre. The summit is being held under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. The President addressed the assembly present. He said that he was sad to see several administrators engaged in a trade union action last year (2018). He commented that they themselves disrespected their own administrative service. It was not exemplary for the most significant persons in the state sector to engage in a trade union action. He added that with the deterioration of the politician it reflected on the state employee. He added that all the governments without indifference to any party should be responsible for the current plight of state employees. He added that everyone is concerned about the next presidential candidate as the constitution dictates a presidential election this year. He noted that whoever gets elected as the president must make a revolutionary change during his/her tenure. He finally noted that if the money misappropriated from fraud and corruption in state institutions is recovered, it will be adequate to fill the budget deficit; yet no government has made an attempt to address this issue.
