Colombo (News 1st): Issuing a communique Sri Lanka Cricket announced that T20 Skipper Lasith Malinga will be allowed to participate in the IPL tournament. Sri Lanka cricket previously stated that the team for the ICC world cup will be selected from the players who participate in the upcoming inter-provincial cricket tournament. Speaking to foreign media Lasith Malinga had said that he will play for the inter-provincial tournament and not participate in the IPL tournament. However, the communique issued by SLC today stated that Malinga was given permission to participate in the IPL taking into consideration the experience that can be gathered by playing with the International players at the tournament. Chairman of the Save the Sports Organization Chinthaka Fernando had this to say in this regard,
" Sri Lanka Cricket is issuing contradictory statements every day. SLC has already given permission for Malinga to participate in the IPL. I think that it would be appropriate if Lasith Malinga plays for the IPL or any other tournament and another young player should be given his spot on the team, and his position of captain. Because if not, young players will not get a chance to showcase their talents. You should take a fair decision now. Give up your position and leadership in the team to another player."
