Iranian Vessel DRUG BUST: Heroin valued at over Rs.1072mn

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The STF stated that the value of the heroin seized on board the Iranian vessel exceeds Rs. 1072 mn. Yesterday(March 24) an Iranian vessel was seized and nine Iranian were arrested 10.5 nautical miles away from Galle with 107.22 kilos of heroin and 1.104 kilos of another unidentified narcotic substance. The successful raid was a fruition of a joint operation comprising the Special Task Force, Police Narcotics Bureau and Sri Lanka Navy. Nine mobile phones and a satellite phone were discovered from the suspects' possession. The Iranians will be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate today(March 25) and police will seek permission to detain the suspects for seven days. The assistance of a translator from the Iranian Embassy in Colombo will be acquired for the interrogation process.
