Daily demand for electricity increases drastically

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy states that the daily consumption of electricity continues to rise sharply. The media spokesperson Sulakshana Jayawardena noted that the daily demand has now risen by 48% making it a challenging task to provide an uninterrupted supply of electricity. He added that the ministry was looking into making short term electricity purchases in order to avoid a crisis. Jayawardena requested the general public to utilize electricity with care due to the current circumstances.
