COLOMBO (News 1st) - The National Elections Commission states that the Chairman of the Embilipitiya Pradeshiya Sabha, that comes under the power of the SLPP, has been stripped of his powers as both chairman and its member for assaulting two police officers. Director General of the Commission, Saman Ratnayake noted that these measures were taken as per orders of the Attorney General. Thereby the letter notifying the termination of M. K. Amila (Chairman of Embilipitiya PS) has been forwarded to both him (M.K. Amila) and the secretary of the SLPP. The letter further seeks a replacement for the vacant position. Over a year ago two police officers who were on night patrol had investigated a motorbike in the Dhaduhathapma junction in Middeniya, Embilipitiya. Once this was notified to the Chairman of the Pradeshiya Sabha he had come to the location where the officers were on patrol and had assaulted them. The injured police officers had then received treatment at both the Embilpitiya base hospital and the General Hospital.
