LRP: Light Rail Project to be completed by 2024

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Consultation agreements for the Japan aided Light Rail Project between Malabe and Fort were signed under the auspices of Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka yesterday (March 05). This track will cover a distance of 17 km and is expected to be completed by 2024. The LRP will have a station for every kilometre. With the completion of the project, the travelling time is estimated to be cut down to 23 minutes from Malabe to Fort. There will be trains every 6 minutes. The Minister of Megapolis and Western Development Patali Champika Ranawaka noted that the project is to launch in April. He added that this was the largest investment project in Sri Lankan history. He noted that unlike other public projects in Sri Lanka he intends to complete LRP on time.
