Water cannons used against counter terrorism bill protesters

Colombo (News1st) - Police fired water cannons and tear gas today at a demonstration staged by the Inter University Students Federation near the Parliamentary round-about. The students were protesting against the Counter-Terrorism bill proposed by the Government. The Inter-University Students Federation began the protest from the University of Visual and Performing Arts. Vehicular movement along Ward Place, Colombo 07 was hampered due to the protest. After gathering at the University of Visual and Performing Arts, the students walked towards the Parliamentary round-about expressing their objection. Police opened fire using water cannons and tear gas when the protestors attempted to force their way through the Police barricades.
