Colombo (News1st) - The National Trade Union Center warns that the new Counter-Terrorism Bill could have wide-ranging negative implications on the general public.
Convenor of the Inter Company Employees Union Wasantha Samarasinghe noted that through this bill the Government will be able to identify anything that want as an act of terrorism. He noted that the bill has the ability to name media institutions and journalists who continue to report on one subject as terrorists.
Samarasinghe also warned that this bill will enable the Government to crack down on trade union movements or students movements that are agitating for their rights. He added that any protest could be deemed as a terrorist activity.
