COLOMBO (News 1st) - News 1st exclusive report on March 9th revealed the plight of the Kimbula Ela Primary School in Minipe, which was abandoned for six years. It is with utmost delight that News 1st announces that following the expose that the Governor of the Central Province Maithri Gunaratne reopened the school today (March 13). The school was closed in 2013 citing a shortage of teachers, lack of resources among other reasons. Following its shut down, students had to travel 6 km daily to attend the nearest school. The governor noted that it was one of his priorities to identify and develop all the rural schools in the province. He promised that he will ensure that facilities like water and toilets are made available to schools without such facilities within two months. A parent shared her thoughts with News 1st and noted that the school was reopened following the expose by News 1st. She also expressed her gratitude to the Divisional Secretary and the Governor.
