COLOMBO (News 1st) – A  mother of an 8-year-old child has conspired with three others and claimed that her child was abducted and that the abductors were demanding a ransom from the husband overseas.

The mother had lodged a complaint at Puliyankulam police on February 7th stating that her 8-year-old child was abducted on the 6th by a group demanding a ransom of Rs.3.5mn.

Police investigations on the phone number that was used by the alleged kidnapper led to a house in Omanthai, Vavuniya. The police found the child hidden in the house.

Two suspects were arrested and inquiries revealed that the mother had orchestrated the whole abduction in order to get Rs. 3.5mn from her husband overseas.

She was arrested along with her two other accomplices who are believed to be her brother and a brother of her husband.

Acting Magistrate of Vavuniya ordered the suspects to be remanded till tomorrow (March 11).
