Compensation for farmers affected by "Sena" begins today

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The process of granting compensation for farmers affected due to the Sena caterpillar menace begins from today (March 10). The Ministry of Agriculture stated that under the first phase compensation will initially be granted to the Ampara district by subject Minister P. Harrison. 307 affected farmers of the Ampara district will be paid a sum of Rs. 40,000 as compensation per acre. Speaking to News1st the Minister said that compensation will also be paid to the affected farmers in Monaragala, Anuradhapura and several other districts in the near future.
