Borella Traffic OIC dies after long battle at ICU

COLOMBO (News1st) - Borella Traffic OIC IP Ananda Sagara Sarathchandra who was critically injured in a hit and run accident in Bambalapitiya died last night (March 09) while still receiving treatment at the ICU of the National Hospital. The IP died last night (March 09) after being in an unconscious state for the past two weeks. On the 24th of last month, the Traffic OIC was knocked down by a defender at around 4.30 am when he was traveling on a bike. The suspects initially fled the scene. However, the defender was later discovered parked at a house in Pelawatta, Battaramulla. Eight suspects were arrested over the incident. The arrested group included the son of MP Mahindanda Aluthgamage, a councilor of the Colombo Municipal Council and a son of a police superintendent. Seven of the eight suspects were released on bail on the 26th of last month. However, the Magistrate ordered that the driver of the vehicle; Udesh Rathnayake to be remanded till tomorrow (March 11). The deceased OIC who lived in a rented house in Werahera, Borelasgamuwa was a resident of Polonnaruwa. The 51-year-old Traffic OIC is the father of three.
