COLOMBO (News 1st) - On March 4th, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe speaking at a public event made a rather unexpected statement on the well-renowned women's lingerie brand, Victoria's Secret. The Prime Minister claimed that although many people accuse the current government of not having achieved any form of development that the highly acclaimed Victoria's Secret women's lingerie brand is still being manufactured in Sri Lanka. The Prime Minister brought up the matter with the intention of attributing it to the steady position that the garment industry of the country has maintained over the years by even continuing to manufacture world-renowned brands. However against the backdrop of such a statement made by the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, news from overseas reports that the L Brands; owner of Victoria's Secret and Bath & Body Works plans to close 53 Victoria's Secret stores in North America this year. The planned closures for 2019 makes up roughly 4% of the company's 1,143 Victoria's Secret stores in the USA. The closure announcement comes after 30 Victoria's Secret stores closed in 2018. If the Prime Minister of the country is attempting to state that the garment sector of the country is in a developed state just because they produce an international lingerie brand such as Victoria's Secret; highly profitable as he is trying to imply, then what is the cause behind the continuous closure of the stores? The public is watching!
