Drug busts following the arrest of "Makandure Madush" in brief

COLOMBO (News 1st) - It has been a while since the arrest of the organized crime lord and drug kingpin "Makandure Madush" and his accomplices in Dubai. He was arrested along with other infamous crime lords, "Kanjipani Imran" and "Keselwatte Dinuka" The case drew attention when it was revealed that popular artist Amal Perera and his son were among those arrested. It was reported, at the time of the apprehension, the suspects were under the influence of narcotic substances. With the apprehension of the suspects, Sri Lankan forces commenced operations to investigate local operatives and accomplices of "Makandure Madush". These operations bore fruit as the local authorities seized equipment utilized to use drugs at the residence of Amal Perera. A digital scale which is used to measure cocaine and a travelling bag alleged to have been used to transport drugs were also found at the residence of actor Van Rooyen. On February 9th police took a car into custody belonging to Van Rooyen at a hotel owned by one of the arrested suspects; Amila Prasanna aka "Sunshine Sudda" in Mirissa. Further investigations led to the apprehension of another accomplice of Madush, "Wedikande Kasun". "Wedikande Kasun" was a suspect in assaulting the residents and robbing diamonds and gems at a residence in Maharagama, disguised as a police officer. The diamond which was believed to have been robbed by him was recovered during a raid at Keselwatta, Panadura. Multiple operations on drug raids were successes during the course of time following the apprehension of "Makandure Madush".
  • On February 5th, police seized a kilo of heroin with a street value over Rs.1bn in Moratuwa.
  • On February 22nd, Negombo anti-corruption unit raided 10 kilos of narcotics substances which included over 4 kilos of heroin and 3.65 kilos of a narcotic substance called "Ash".
  • The largest drug haul; 294.49 kilos of heroin (valued over Rs. 2945mn), ever to be seized in the Sri Lankan history was executed in Kollupitiya.
  • Yesterday (March 05) 5 kilos of cocaine valued at Rs. 7mn was taken into the custody along with the suspect; a Bolivian national.
