COLOMBO (News 1st) – UNP Parliamentarian S. M. Marikkar attended an event held in Thotalanga yesterday(March 03) to distribute equipment to a society established in Thotalanga.
At the event, MP responded to some of the inquiries made by the journalists present.
Responding to a question on the curtailing of the President’s powers, he said that it is a serious matter as it would lead to major parties to seek the assistance of minor parties to gain the majority of the house. He also noted following a curtailing of presidential powers the economic development of the country could come to an abrupt halt.
On being asked his views on some back benchers planning to reject the vote on ministries under the President he said that they have not come to the conclusion to reject the President’s budget overhead and they also do not have the majority in the parliament to do so.
