Colombo (News 1st): ‘Dematagoda Ruwan’, a member of an organized criminal group, was arrested along with another 7 people after the Police Special Task Force raided the suspect’s house in Weluwana, Dematagoda today (Feb 28).

A Pakistani Couple was also arrested along with the group. Police Media Spokesperson stated that they seized 2 pistols, an air rifle, 50 bullets, 3 swords, 2 cash counting machines, 3 luxury vehicles and 4 grams of heroin.

‘Dematagoda Ruwan’ is a brother of ‘Dematagoda Chaminda’ who is also a notorious gang leader. The heroin which was seized at Kuburapola, Kuliyapitya had been coordinated by Suranga Seneviratne a drug smuggler currently in prison.

Police said the suspect who was arrested is his chief accomplice. He was arrested last night while smuggling 1 kg of Heroin on his motorbike.

Nine kgs of heroin valued at Rs. 120 million was also seized by the police after they searched the arrested suspect’s house. The operator of the drug ring is already imprisoned for the possession of 1.5 kg of heroin and 100 g of ICE.
