Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Hon. Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, arrived at Paro International Airport today, 31 August 2026, to participate in the inaugural Global Conscious Food Systems Summit, being held in Bhutan from 31 August to 04 September 2026.
The Global Conscious Food Systems Summit 2026 is the inaugural global summit dedicated to exploring the role of consciousness, values, culture, spirituality and inner transformation in advancing sustainable, equitable and regenerative food systems. The Summit is jointly hosted by the Royal Government of Bhutan, the Conscious Food Systems Alliance (CoFSA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), under the theme “Activating the Heart of Food Systems Transformation.”
Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya was warmly received by the Prime Minister of Bhutan; the Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade of Bhutan; the Minister for Education and Skills Development of Bhutan; the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Bangladesh; the Ambassador of Bhutan to Sri Lanka; and senior officials of the Royal Government of Bhutan and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Country Office in Bhutan.
Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya will participate as a high-level speaker at the Opening Plenary of the Global Conscious Food Systems Summit on 01 September 2026 at Dungkar Dzong, where she will deliver an address under the theme “Rising to the Moment: Igniting Consciousness to Address the Polycrisis.”
During her visit, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya will hold bilateral discussions with the Prime Minister of Bhutan, as well as with the Minister for Education and Skills Development. She is also scheduled to hold a number of meetings with other high-level foreign dignitaries attending the Summit, including the former Secretary-General of the United Nations.
Prime Minister Dr. Amarasuriya’s participation in the Summit provides an opportunity for Sri Lanka to share its perspectives and experiences on sustainable, inclusive and people-centred food systems, while further strengthening the longstanding and cordial relations between Sri Lanka and Bhutan.
