COLOMBO (News 1st) - Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne today(February 25) instructed the Criminal Investigations Department to proceed with legal action if there are any other suspects connected to the Central Bank Bond Scam. The Chief Magistrate stressed that it is the duty and the responsibility of the CID to take legal action against all the suspects involved in the Bond Scam. The beneficial owner of Perpetual Treasuries Limited, Arjun Aloysius and its CEO Kasun Palisena, who are suspects in the case appeared in court today(February 25). The Attorney at Law, Sajitha Jayawardena appearing for Aloysius and Palisena pointed out that legal action was only taken against his clients, despite the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into the bond scam and the Auditor General reports highlighting that more persons from the Central Bank were involved in the bond scam. He added that no action was taken against any other official, despite what the report of the commission report states. Accordingly, the Colombo Chief Magistrate instructed the CID to proceed with legal action if there are any other suspects connected to the Central Bank Bond Scam. The case will be called up again on April 30th. While the former Governor of the Central Bank Arjuna Mahendran has been identified as the chief suspect in this case, four years have lapsed since the incident, he is yet to be apprehended and produced before the judiciary.
