Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson talk Marvel at the Oscars and Spike Lee

Reuters - "Captain Marvel" co-stars Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson have been talking Oscars ahead of this weekend's star-studded event in Los Angeles. With two Marvel movies on the horizon, "Avengers: Endgame" and the aforementioned "Captain Marvel," and "Black Panther" nominated for a slew of awards including best picture, the The Hollywood Reporter reported in January that Oscar producers were hoping to assemble stars of the "Avengers" franchise on stage during the ceremony. "I can't confirm or deny. I don't know," Larson told Reuters at a press junket for "Captain Marvel" in Los Angeles Thursday (February 21). "Many people have talked to me about that. I don't know. Maybe it's also like i don't look further than lunch so I'm not... and I don't know what today is or when the Oscars are really so I'm not the person to ask." A number of actors from the franchise including Larson, Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Paul Rudd, Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Evans and Danai Gurira have been announced to present at the awards. Meanwhile, Jackson, who plays Nick Fury in the Marvel movies, has been discussing filmmakers Spike Lee's first Oscar nomination for best director for his movie, "BlacKkKlansman." The pair have worked together on a number of Lee's films including "Do the Right Thing," "School Daze," and "Jungle Fever." "No, that's the first one, have we spoken about it," he told Reuters. "Second, yes, I'll be there at the Oscars and only if he wins... maybe I'll present it to him." However, Jackson says there's a major downside to be nominated if things don't go your way. He said, "You see, that's a mistake you people always make saying it's just an honor to be nominated. It is not. It's an honor to win. To be nominated means that every time you go on a talk show from now on people go, 'Oscar nominated but didn't win.'" "Captain Marvel" his theaters on March 4, 2019. The 91st Academy Awards take place in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 24.
