Colombo (News 1st) - The national carrier recorded a staggering loss of Rs 24 Billion over the past 9 months. In spite of the good governance promises of providing professional experts to manage the troubled airline, the national airline recorded ever-growing losses. The cancellation of orders for new aircraft and cancellation of lease arrangements caused penalties of over USD 150 million. Ministers squabbled between themselves as to the amount of compensation during the run-up to the cancellation. Detractors claimed that there was no commercial sense in canceling orders for the Airbus A350.
