"Yapanayata Gangak" in 2020

COLOMBO (News 1st) - President Maithripala Sirisena said that it was crucial to come up with a solution to the existing water crisis in the North. The President made this statement at a progress revision meeting of the proposed Water Project for Northern Province held at the President's office. The Head of State said that the issues pertaining to the development of the region will also be resolved, if a constant water supply is provided to the area. The President also highlighted the importance of implementing the proposal he made to transport the excess water that flows to the sea in Ratnapura, Kegalle and Kalutara districts via pipelines to the Northern Province. The discussion was also centered around the progress of the proposed projects. "Yapanayata Gangak' is scheduled to be implemented in 2020 with funds from the Netherlands. The Cascade System Development project will be implemented in the Northern and North Central provinces with the financial assistance from JAICA.
