Ravi Karunanayake meets Azath Salley

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Minister Ravi Karunanayake met with Governor of the Western Province Azath Salley at the Governor's Office in Colombo. Ravi Karunanayake, the Minister of Power, Energy and Business Development shared the purpose of his visit with the journalists. He said that he visited the Governor to inquire on what support was necessary from his ministry to the provincial councils. He said that he would not cater only to the Colombo district but to the needs of the entire island. He added that the CEB can now offer electricity to any household. A journalist inquired about the buildings constructed on the pavements in Colombo. Azath Salley clarified the situation. He said that he would not tolerate anything on pavements except for people. He said that roads are for vehicles, while pavements are for pedestrians. He mentioned that he had already given instructions to remove unauthorized buildings. The Chief Secretary has written to all Municipal and Urban Councils and Pradeshiya Sabhas for necessary action. "If you go to Kettarama, you'll see the notices displayed in every shop. We have started working. If those buildings are not removed by next week, we will have to do the needful." he said.
