Metal fragments found in Mannar grave to be tested

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Several pieces of metal unearthed from the Mannar mass grave have been sent to the Government Analyst Department. Judicial Medical Officer of the Mannar hospital Saminda Rajapaksa said that several other pieces of metal unearthed from the mass grave are also due to be sent to the Analyst Department. The excavation of the Mannar mass grave was underway for the 138th day yesterday (February 05). Specialist Dr. Rajapaksa noted that 312 human skeletons were unearthed from the grave adding that 297 of them were removed from the location. 26 of these skeletons are believed to have belonged to children. Dr. Rajapaksa added that the report on carbon dating on the samples that were sent to the Beta Analytic lab in the US will be sent to the country within the week.
