COLOMBO (News 1st) - A heated debate took place between Former UNP Minister Joseph Michael Perera and Parliamentarian Kavinda Jayawardena at a ceremony to lay the foundation stone for a Dhamma school building in Thudella, Ja - Ela this morning (February 03). The event was held under the auspices of MP Kavinda Jayawardena. This building is being constructed under the Sisu Daham Sevana program conducted by the Ministry of Housing and Construction. United National Party Organizer of the Ja - Ela electorate Joseph Michael also attended the event. The tense situation erupted when the name of the UNP Organizer was not mentioned on the board erected at the location. Joseph Michael Perera questioned Jayawardena as to why his name was not included on the board to which the MP had replied saying that the building is to be built using his funds. The UNP Ja-Ela electorate eventually walked out of the event, unhappy with the what had occurred. Former Minister Perera speaking to the media said that the project was being funded by Minister Sajith Premadasa's ministry and that he had received an invitation to attend the event. UNP MP Kavinda Jayawardene, however, noted that he (Joseph Michael Perera) should make room for the younger generations to take over after they have been rejected by the people. He further said that since he was appointed by the people that he has to work for them.
