Acting Chairman of COA reccuses herself from case against PM

Colombo (News1st): The acting chairman of the Court of Appeal Justice Deepali Wijesundara recused herself from examining the petition filed against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe citing personal reasons. Colombo Municipal Councilor Sharmila Gonawala filed a petition against Ranil Wickremesinghe claiming the latter cannot hold a Parliamentary Seat as he is the main shareholder in a private company that generates revenue through services provided to Government Institutions. The petition was taken up before Justices Deepani Wijesundara and Achala Wengappuli. It was decided to consider the petition once again tomorrow (Feb 1) with a separate bench which does not comprise of justice Deepani Wijesundara.
